Omega-3 and Athletes
Athletes are searching for an edge that will increase their performance, speed recovery, and minimize possible injuries. Of course there are PED (Performance Enhancing Drugs), that have side effects and health risks, and PES (Performance Enhancing Supplements), the more natural approach using various proteins, vitamins, minerals, etc. One of those PES nutrients is Omega-3 fish oil. Positive research results, and actual use by athletes, supports that using Omega-3 on a consistent basis will enhance the metabolic effect on the body, resulting in increased strength and muscle gains. Omega-3 can also prevent, or slow down the natural process of muscle loss.
Two areas of concern for athletes are DOMS (Delayed Onset Muscle Soreness), and ROM (Range Of Motion), especially during the post-workout recovery period. Omega-3 use is a factor in decreasing DOMS, which will in turn, increase ROM. Both DOMS and ROM benefit directly from anti-inflammatory properties of Omega-3. Inflammation is the body’s natural response to stress, however, inflammation that is two intense, or lasts for an extended period of time, can turn into a chronic health issue.
There is a direct correlation between reducing body stress/ mental anxiety, and the use of Omega-3. Omega-3 has been directly linked to creating fat free muscle mass, and muscle cell size. Fat loss can be directly affected by Omega-3 due to blood sugar regulation, improved liver function, and decreased cortisol level (core level).
Don’t be fooled, not all Omega-3 is created equal.
Although we need Omega-6 in our body, having too much can actually increase inflammation in the body. More and more Omega-3-6-9 formulas are on the market, and you should be aware that some are not a positive supplement for your body. This is why Fortifeye Nutrition, and Fortifeye Performance Nutrition only have Omega-3 in their formulas and in a natural Triglyceride form. In addition to the above health benefits, Omega-3 can promote heart health, brain health, eye health, joint health, circulation, good blood pressure, cognitive health, and skin, hair and nail health.
